The King of Spain International Journalism Awards premiered in 2021 its most prestigious gathering since its creation, in 1983, with renewed and updated awards, which reduced the categories to six to give priority to stories of journalistic excellence, and with a prize of 10.000 euros, at the Pulitzer level, which consolidates the awards as the most recognized in the Ibero-American sphere.

The renewal of the awards is a firm commitment to the value of journalism. The objective of EFE and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation is to give a new impetus to the awards, which focus on humanitarian, social, cultural and environmental values.
