At EFE, we are committed to developing measures to improve environmental conditions. One of them is implementing energy-saving and efficiency measures. In response to the requirements of Royal Decree 56/2016 of February 12, which transposes Directive 2012/27/EU of the European Parliament and the Council of October 25, 2012, on energy efficiency concerning energy audits, an analysis of EFE's national infrastructure has been carried out.
The following measures have been implemented at our facilities to promote energy savings:
At the central headquarters, the reduction of occupied spaces continues, with a space optimization project being developed for the coming years.
A space reduction plan has been launched in national bureaus, with renovation projects tendered to achieve this goal in the bureaus of Seville, Barcelona, and at the central headquarters. In which the spaces occupied by Agencia EFE will be reduced.
The EFE Agency continues to manage its waste treatment in a way that promotes separation and recycling. For this purpose, it has installed specific containers and contracted a company to treat and destroy waste.
Sixteen electric charging stations have been installed in the garage of Agencia EFE’s central headquarters, thus promoting electric mobility among employees.
The policy of promoting train travel over air travel is maintained, resulting in a reduction of environmental pollution.
In 2024, emissions for the year 2023 were calculated at the central headquarters and national delegations.
The greenhouse gases generated in 2023 were audited and verified by AENOR, totaling 583.12 tCO2eq.
This represents a 22.48% reduction compared to emissions in 2022.
The calculation for the year 2024 is currently underway.
During 2024, the electricity supply for the central headquarters and national bureaus was tendered with a guarantee of renewable origin.
In tenders where applicable, guidelines have been included to positively assess suppliers offering products with better energy labels, such as requirements for certifications like the EU Ecolabel, Energy Star, etc.
The use of recycled or biodegradable materials, energy efficiency, emission reduction, and waste management is promoted—whether as award criteria, minimum requirements in the tender documents, or special execution conditions.
In 2024, we have continued to promote the use of hybrid cars, achieving a reduction of CO2.
The temperature at EFE's headquarters has been adjusted so that it does not exceed 19º C in winter and is below 27º C in summer.
EFE main offices have established on- and off-lighting schedules, and illumination in basements and common areas has been reduced.
The policy of replacing conventional lighting with LED lights has been maintained, resulting in significant energy savings. In various work centers, conventional lights have been progressively replaced with LED lights, leading to considerable energy savings.
The lighting fixtures in the delegations of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago, Bilbao, and Valencia have been replaced. A total of 179 LED luminaires have been installed. At the central headquarters, the supply of LED-type luminaires has been tendered to replace the lighting on floors 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8.
Daily management with maintenance adjusts lighting schedules and settings according to weather conditions and building occupancy.
Agencia EFE continues to encourage its employees to take online courses, avoiding the need to travel from their place of residence to training facilities. This reduces transportation use and, consequently, the generation of greenhouse gases.
The use of various online platforms that allow for storing, processing, and managing documents is encouraged, contributing to a "paperless" policy.
From the outset, it implemented remote work as a health measure against the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce the energy impact of commuting to the workplace. This reduced building space (closing floors) and, consequently, reduced energy consumption (lighting, air conditioning, and equipment).
In 2024, electricity consumption was reduced by 6.15% at the central headquarters and 17.99% at the national delegations.
An audit has been carried out to monitor the electricity consumption of the main facilities at the central headquarters of Agencia EFE. To improve energy efficiency, a control software has been implemented that will enable the establishment of a baseline consumption profile.

In 2024, EFE continued contributing tangible and intangible values to society through its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
As part of its efforts to improve the environment, and under the leadership of the General Services Department / Prevention Service, conventional lighting was replaced with LED lighting in 2024. A total of 1,541.3 kg of “hazardous waste” and 6 kg of “non-hazardous waste” were removed through authorized waste managers. Waste separation was promoted through the installation of separate containers for paper, packaging, and organic waste.
Additionally, EFE’s thematic portals on equality (Efeminista), the environment (EFE Verde), health (EFE Salud), and verification (EFE Verifica) have raised awareness, educated, included, and disseminated information. This has helped steer the agency’s activities in a sustainable and ethical direction, benefiting society as a whole.
