INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCES

International alliances

EFE is a member of the main international associations of news and media agencies such as MINDS, EANA and AMAN, among many others.

It participates in their meetings to share experiences, develop projects and exchange views on journalism and the future of the media, as well as to highlight the role of public media and its increasing role against false and misrepresented information.

EFE's voice and work were present in numerous international forums of agencies and media in which it made the case for cooperation between sectorial companies, the promotion of journalism values and the search for improvements in the structures, services and operation of the media. Chronological highlight of meetings:

From the 27th to the 30th of October, the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) celebrated its 78th General Assembly in Madrid.

On the 12th of October the 30th General Assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) was held in Dubrovnik (Croatia).

On the 6th and 7th of October, the 33rd MINDS Conference took place in Brussels (Belgium). It was organized by the Belgian news agency Belga.

On the 3Oth of September, the EANA General Assembly was held in Zurich (Switzerland).

On the 7th of September, EFE joined a consortium of news agencies from several European countries. The group created a "European Newsroom" linking 16 news agencies from different countries, with the aim of improving coverage of EU affairs and strengthening the journalistic sector.

The European agencies that have joined the project are: dpa (Germany), EFE (Spain), Europa Press (Spain), AFP (France), ANSA (Italy), AGERPRES (Romania), APA (Austria), ATA (Albania), HINA (Croatia), MIA (North Macedonia), BELGA (Belgium), PAP (Poland), BTA (Bulgaria), FENA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), STA (Slovenia), TANJUG (Serbia), TASR (Slovakia) and UKRINFORM (Ukraine).

The EANA Spring Conference was held in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), May 11 to 13, with the support of the FENA news agency.

On April 28 to 29, the 32nd Conference of MINDS, the umbrella organization of 22 news agencies from around the world, was held in Helsinki (Finland). It was postponed three times due to the COVID pandemic.

On February the 11th, EFE participated in a meeting of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA). It was an initiative of the organization's new board of directors for its presidents to give a conference each month on topics related to their media.

This conference program was named EANA Xchange and was inaugurated by the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

EFE president, Gabriela Cañas, was the first woman president of the group of news agencies to speak at EANA Xchange.
