Technology

In 2025, EFE continued to make progress with its technological security projects, achieving significant milestones such as the implementation of a company-wide cybersecurity training plan, the approval of the Information Security and Cybersecurity Policy, and the establishment of the Security Committee. Throughout the year, and within this framework, work continued on approving the regulatory framework and procedures that consolidate the formalisation of security practices that were already in place at the Agency but required appropriate governance.

In the field of Artificial Intelligence, EFE accelerated its efforts by developing a Plan for the implementation of AI projects identified as potentially relevant to the generation and exploitation of its content. This included launching pilots such as the metadata tagging and vectorisation of photographs and video using cloud services, as well as creating a space for the exchange, experimentation and adoption of these technologies within a controlled, internally developed environment known as the Playground.

Within this environment, all employees can collaboratively use a prompt manager that forms part of an ecosystem which, in line with the opportunities identified, is gradually being connected to our systems. The EFE Plus pilot was also launched, a chatbot designed to facilitate natural-language searches of the Agency’s historical archives.

This project demonstrated considerable potential both for internal use by all its journalists and for possible commercialisation to our clients, providing an advanced and innovative way of accessing and using EFE’s news knowledge database.

2025 was also the year in which a Guide to Best Practices for the Use of AI was published, alongside the rollout of an Artificial Intelligence assistant for all company employees, who have since had access to this new tool to make their daily work more efficient.

In the area of Management Systems, one of the most ambitious projects to modernise the management structure of Spanish News Agency EFE was undertaken this year, addressing the study and definition of the future of the current systems.

This project aims to comprehensively address the various needs identified in the current system, which, despite being fully functional, requires re-engineering to ensure maximum opportunities and its long-term sustainability.

In 2025, this project was carried out, resulting in the definition of a work plan that will be put out to tender and whose implementation is expected to begin in 2026, in accordance with the planned schedule.

Furthermore, as part of the ongoing work to adapt our commercial platform in order to diversify sales methods and commercial formats, major projects were added during the year, including the definition of a multi-product voucher sales model, as well as the progressive improvement of the user experience and connection to various external content sources within the framework of third-party content syndication.

The modernisation of the Agency’s main editorial system also began this year, resulting in a minimum viable product by the end of the year.

This project, together with the launch of the study into the re-engineering of the video production and documentation system, aims to provide the Agency’s journalists with a content creation and management ecosystem adapted to new technological architectures, ensuring greater flexibility and optimised performance for its core activity

Sala I: El Tránsito

Sala III: Mosaico XXI

1. Fotografías que no necesitas ver.

2. Memoria interactiva.

3. Out of context.
